Amazon India Opens Its Doors

Amazon today opened in India, the world’s second biggest country by population, with the launch of Amazon India.

Amazon has traded in India for some time through its subsidiary Junglee, a comparison shopping website acquired in 1998, which post-acquisition had a makeover to give it an Amazon-style orange and black look and feel. This launch of Amazon India marks the arrival of fully-fledged Amazon online retail, with easy purchasing, fast efficient delivery, a generous returns policy and the Amazon A-Z customer satisfaction guarantee.

At launch Amazon India is selling in a handful of categories; mainly books and movies. More categories will be added soon.
