Ashley Schroder Wins Startup Weekend

Auckland Startup WeekendA team led by World Wide Access lead software engineer Ashley Schroder has won the grand prize at the Auckland Startup Weekend. Idealog magazine today announced the Startup Weekend winners.

Startup Weekend is a global organisation headquartered in Seattle and sponsored by Google, Coca Cola, Microsoft, Amazon and others. Startup Weekend events take place in over 100 countries, and the Auckland Startup Weekend took place the 10th, 11th and 12th of May.

With the tagline, “No Talk, All Action. Launch a Startup in 54 hours”, Startup Weekend events get people together to share ideas, form teams and launch startup businesses.

In the Startup Weekend format, entrants pitch their business ideas, form into teams, and over the course of a single weekend prototype the product and pitch the business ideas to entrepreneur-judges.

Ashley’s startup concept is ArriveSupplied, a service which delivers travellers the items they need when they touch down in a new country. Whether that’s a SIM card for cost-effective mobile broadband in the United States, sunblock strong enough to block out the Southern sun, or a ‘local experience’ sampling of local foods and beverages, the traveller simply orders the box that’s right for them without having to spend hours researching what they might need in each destination.
