Monday 28 November was Cyber Monday, and on that day U.S. shoppers spent over a billion dollars online in 24 hours. ComScore estimated it as the biggest online shopping day in history at US$1.25 billion, up more than 20% over the previous record, set on Cyber Monday last year.
The World Wide Access team worked hard promoting New Zealand products to Cyber Monday shoppers. Particular Cyber Monday highlights were the record 1-day sales achieved by the Real Nappies Birth To Potty Pack and the Mumi&Bubi Solids Starter Kit.
Cyber Monday falls every year on the Monday after American Thanksgiving, which is recognised on the fourth Thursday of each November. The Cyber Monday name was coined in 2005 by retail industry organisation Shop.org, and acknowledging the pattern of annual spikes in online sales as consumers returned to work after the Thanksgiving holiday.
