This week we released our first software product; Cloud Backup for Magento, which automatically creates regular off-site backups for Magento webstores.
It takes the form of a software extension for the Magento e-commerce system. Magento is one of the software packages we use to build on-line presence for New Zealand products in markets overseas and underpins webstores such as Baby Sleep Bags UK and Real Nappies USA.
Backups are one of those things that we all know we need to do, but few of us have the discipline to do as regularly as we should, if we remember to do them at all. There are always things that are more urgent or, quite frankly, more interesting to do.
Wouldn’t it be good if they could just be taken care of? And done properly, so that if our web server’s disk drives disintegrate, or our IT hosting company goes out of business without warning, we can be confident our webstore can be reconstructed and brought back on-line from data held safely somewhere else in the world.
That’s what our Cloud Backup software does for Magento webstores. It creates backup files daily and sends them over the Internet to be stored on virtual servers using a highly reliable ‘cloud storage’ service provided by Amazon.com. Data is stored securely and privately at Amazon data centres, replicated at more than one location and accessible from anywhere on-line.
We’ve made Cloud Backup for Magento Webstores available as a free Beta release, and we’re encouraging people using the Magento software platform world-wide to try it.
